Three county teams ranked inside top 10

The second installment of the AP Tennessee HS Prep Football Top 10 featured three county teams ranked with another just barely missing the cut.

In Class A, Cloudland entered the poll at No. 10. The ‘Landers, who are 2-0 with wins over Gatlinburg-Pittman and North Greene, recorded 24 points in the poll – just eight point behind No. 9 Lake County.

Defending state champion Dresden was ranked No. 1 with No. 2 South Pittsburg and No. 3 Huntingdon rounding out the top three.

In Class 2A, Hampton dropped three spots to No. 9 after last week’s loss to Johnson County. The Bulldogs recorded 32 points and were just seven points behind No. 8 Waverly.

Happy Valley, who was off last week, just narrowly missed the Top 10 as they received 18 points – two points off No. 10 Eagleville.

Adamsville was the top-ranked team in the poll. No. 2 Marion County and No. 3 Peabody rounded out the top three.

In Class 4A, Elizabethton recorded 75 points to come in No. 7. The Cyclones, who are 1-1 on the year, were four points behind No. 5 Crockett County and three points behind No. 6 Anderson County.

Greeneville was the top-ranked team in the classification, with No. 2 Haywood and No. 3 Memphis East rounded out the top three.

Other local teams include Science Hill (No. 4 in Class 6A), Daniel Boone (No. 7 in Class 5A) and Johnson County (No. 6 in Class 3A).
